The national chairman of the Labour Party in Edo State, Julius Abure, has been suspended by the party. This decision was made after the party’s state executive ratified Abure’s membership suspension from Arue, Ward 3, Esan North-East Local Government Area.

The suspension was conveyed to Abure in a letter dated 14th May, 2024. During a press conference in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, the LP Esan North East LG Chairman, Patrick Onogbenin, revealed that he had received a letter from the Ward 3 Chairman, Thompson Ehiguese, outlining the reasons for Abure’s suspension.

Onogbenin discussed these issues with other members of the party’s executive in the local government and, upon concluding that the reasons were significant, wrote to the state executive for ratification.

The state chairman of the Labour Party, Kelly Ogbaloi, received and read the letters and confirmed that the suspension had been ratified and upheld at the local government level. Ogbaloi explained that the state executive had no choice but to ratify the suspension due to the weighty reasons provided.

He emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly and was made even more difficult by the fact that Abure is from the same ward where the suspension originated.

Nonetheless, the state executive found no evidence to prevent them from agreeing to ratify the suspension. On behalf of the state executive committee, Ogbaloi officially announced Abure’s suspension from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government, Edo State.
