The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Abia State has publicly apologised to the people of Abia for falling short of their expectations over the years.

The party claimed that this was a factor in their loss in the state’s most recent gubernatorial contest.

Shortly after the party’s stakeholders meeting on Thursday in Umuahia, Vice Chairman of the party and Acting Publicity Secretary Abraham Amah addressed reporters at the PDP secretariat. He said the party had learned from its tremendous blunders and was willing to right the wrongs.

He expressed delight that the party was still in power across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas and vowed to do things differently this time, emphasising that the lessons learned from the failures will be applied to forge a new route.

But with the lineup of influential politicians joining the party in the next few days, Amah expressed hope that the Abia PDP will make a comeback.

When asked about the recent defection that caused a stir inside the party, the acting PDP spokesperson explained that a tree must lose its old leaves in order to make room for new ones.

“Once you get up, someone else will undoubtedly take your place. PDP is still going strong; we’re not giving up. Come 2027, we will still be the party to beat, Amah declared.

The most recent governor of the state, Okezie Ikpeazu, declared earlier during the stakeholder meeting that the party would now let its members to select its leaders, ending the period of imposition.
