Live band became a signature element of Burna Boy’s Afrobeats music- Ruger

Nigerian artist Ruger has recently stated that his fellow Grammy-winning artist, Burna Boy, was the one who introduced the concept of using a live band in Afrobeats performances.

He emphasized that prior to Burna Boy incorporating live bands into his performances, most Afrobeats musicians would typically rely on DJ sets during their shows.

Ruger expressed his admiration for Burna Boy’s innovation, mentioning that the live band element has made live performances more engaging and enjoyable for both the artists and the audience.

During a conversation with Billboard, Ruger, accompanied by BNXN, highlighted the impact of Burna Boy’s introduction of live bands in Afrobeats performances, stating that the younger generation of Nigerian artists recognizes and appreciates the influence and contribution of Burna Boy in this aspect.
