Sebastine Broderick, the former head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 men national team, went away at the age of 85.

On Wednesday, Broderick’s wife confirmed the news.

He has been suffering for more than a year from an unidentified ailment.

In 1985, Broderick guided the Golden Eaglets to victory in the inaugural U-16 World Cup held in China.

In the 1987 competition held in Canada, he also took home a silver medal—a competition FIFA later renamed the U-17 World Cup.

When Nigeria triumphed in China in 1985, Broderick was the head coach together with Christian Chukwu and Bala Shamaki.

He had a stellar career as a coach and player, competing for his nation in the 1968 Mexico Olympics.
