RMD, alongside Funke Akindele and other talented individuals, will be honored with prestigious awards at the upcoming AFRIFF 12. This exciting event will recognize their outstanding contributions to the industry and celebrate their remarkable achievements. It’s a well-deserved recognition for their hard work and talent, and we can’t wait to see them receive these well-earned accolades.

The 12th edition of the Africa International Film Festival had its plans disclosed by its organisers.

According to the promoters, the goal of AFRIFF 2023 is to support the international distribution of local films.

The actors that will be celebrated at the festival include Richard Mofe Damijo, Funke Akindele, and Femi Adebayo. The festival is slated to take place from November 5 to November 11, 2023.

This was revealed during a press conference announcing the festival, which took place on Saturday at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos.

The week-long event kicks off on Sunday night with the exclusive premiere of Lonzo Nzekwe’s ORAH, according to AFRIFF creator and director Chioma Ude.

Amidst all the magic, the last night will also mark the much-awaited debut of the inspirational film “Breath of Life,” which is produced and directed by Eku Edewor and BB Shashore.

Ude restated the organisers’ commitment to enhance the festival’s ability to meet international standards.

“We are committed to providing a platform for the voices of African filmmakers and film enthusiasts to be heard, and we are inspired by their passion and dedication,” the speaker stated.

The topic for this year is “Indigenous to global 2.0,” which carries over from the previous year, but I discovered just how unprepared we are.

We increased the size of our panel, judges, and masterclasses in order to be extremely well-prepared for the worldwide market.

Our main goals are to enhance capacity building and further position the sector to take advantage of new opportunities. Indigenous to Global 3.0 will take place the next year until we get it right.

According to Ude, the festival will feature a number of notable films, including as Bola Austen-Peters’ “Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti” and Titi Ogunfere’s “Queen of Adire – A Story of Nike Davies Okundaye.”

The AFRIFF jury, which is led by Stephen Dr. Love, is proud to include both foreign and local members.

The others are Nollywood icons Kate Henshaw and Desmond Elliot, as well as Bisola Tejumola of Multichoice Nigeria, Abby Ajayi, Nicholas Weinstock, Geneva Wasserman, Wafa’a Celine Halawi, Greg Odutayo, Ranada Shepard, and Tsitsi Dangaremgba.

The 12th edition of AFRIFF, according to Head of Media and PR Latasha Ngwube, will play hundreds of films for free, find fresh talent, and provide insider possibilities.

“As AFRIFF looks internally to strengthen and grow in preparation to take African stories made by Africans to the world, the world is coming to Nigeria,” the speaker declared.

She claims that AFRIFF would feature indigenous stories from female leaders who have had a significant national influence.

According to her, there will be a variety of events during the festival, such as networking sessions and panel discussions, culminating in the famous AFRIFF Globe Awards.

Additionally, three fascinating new categories supported by MTN Nigeria will be unveiled at this year’s event. These additions include the Viewer’s Choice category, which lets viewers vote for their favourite movie of the year, the Fan Favourite Award, which lets fans vote for their favourite actors and actresses, and the Honouree Award, which gives N2 million to each recipient.

Selected actors will receive their awards at the Globe Awards Night, which takes place on November 11th during the festival.

Richard Mofe Damijo (The Black Book), Blossom Chukwujekwu (The Trade), Chidi Mokeme (Shanty Town), Funke Akindele (Battle on Buka Street), and Femi Adebayo (Jagun Jagun) are among the actors who will receive honours.

“The others are Lateef Adedimeji (Jagun Jagun), Ini Edo (Shanty Town), Kunle Remi (Anikulapo), Lateef Akpotha (Gangs of Lagos), and Tobi Bakare (Gangs of Lagos).”
