The allegations made by the Labour Party’s campaign group that its nominee for president, Peter Obi, fled the country after losing the Supreme Court case have been refuted.
With the Supreme Court’s rejection of Obi’s and PDP leader Atiku Abubakar’s election challenges, the 171-day legal battle to overturn President Bola Tinubu’s election came to a conclusion on Thursday.
The chief justice, Justice Inyang Okoro, who chaired the seven-member panel, delivered the lead judgement. It denied the President’s academic records from Chicago State University, which Atiku attempted to present as new proof of his accusation of certificate forgery against the former governor of Lagos.

The lead judgement that rejected Atiku and Obi’s appeals was concurred with by the other justices on the court, including Emmanuel Agim, Adamu Jauro, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Uwani Aji, and Abubakar Tijjani.
Many Nigerians had anticipated that Obi would comment on the verdict amid the hues and shouts in response to it from the LP’s leadership and followers.
Social media users conjectured that the former governor of Anambra may have fled or was still in pain following the verdict due to his utter silence 24 hours after the ruling.
The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council spokesman, Yunusa Tanko, refuted the rumours in the meantime, pointing out that, contrary to popular belief, the LP candidate had left the nation well in advance of the Supreme Court’s notification.
