The conviction of Faisal for conspiracy and money laundering by the Court of Appeal on Thursday was affirmed. Faisal is the son of the imprisoned former Chairman of the disbanded Pension Reform Taskforce Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.

A three-member panel of the appellate court also lowered his sentence from 14 to seven years in jail on the basis that he was a first-time offender.

The Federal High Court in Abuja’s Justice Okon Abang was found to have correctly convicted Faisal, according to the court’s ruling, which was written by Justice Ugochukwu Anthony Ogakwu.

It believed that the trial court should not have given the convicted party the maximum penalty allowed by law since he was a first-time offender.
