The police in Zaria, Kaduna State, have given the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as the Shiites, access to no less than 67 cars.
The decision was made in accordance with the Kaduna State High Court’s ruling, which ordered the Defendants to hand up their individual cars, motorbikes, and tricycles to the Plaintiffs (IMN).
The Attorney General of Kaduna State and the Commissioner of Police were the two defendants in case KDH/KAD/1131/21.
On Sunday, Mr. Mark Abu, Counsel to the Plaintiffs, informed journalists in Zaria that they were at M.T.D Police Station Zaria to seek the execution of Judge Amina Bello’s decision from the Kaduna State High Court, which was rendered on November 9, 2022.
The plaintiffs’ attorney, who acknowledged that the police had delivered the automobiles, pointed out that: “The number of the vehicles for releasee submitted in the court proceedings were a lot more than the vehicles they encountered at the police station.
“On the ground, there are only 67 cars, although there should be more, and these vehicles have been damaged.
“With regard to the discrepancy between the number of automobiles listed in court records and those actually held by the police, we are now holding our cards close to our breast.
The solutions that are accessible and the ones we will examine will be discussed with our clients, Abu said.
He continued, saying that while his clients had anticipated at least 50 bikes, they had only received 10. He said that his clients would accept the motorcycles and make decisions on the ones that were missing.
It should be noted that the plaintiffs (Mohammed-Auwal Yakubu and 77 others) filed a Writ of Summons against the Kaduna State Attorney General and Commissioner of Police on December 15, 2021.
The writ was based on a Kaduna State High Court ruling ordering the defendants to provide the plaintiffs their respective cars, motorbikes, and tricycles in addition to N4 million in general damages and the expense of the lawsuit.
The automobiles, tricycles, and motorbikes were allegedly in the defendants’ possession at M.T. D. Kaduna State police station since 2015.
