Mohammed Baburam, 65, has been arrested for allegedly starving and chaining his wife for a year in Potiskum, according to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe.
This was disclosed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSC Bala Garba, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Damaturu.
According to NAN, pictures of the shackled 40-year-old mother of four went viral in the state, inspiring locals and civil society organisations to call for Baburam’s quick arrest.
According to Garba, Baburam was detained on Wednesday as a result of a tip from the Dabo-Aliyu Stadium neighbourhood, where the suspect and his victim live.
According to preliminary investigation, the defendant only feeds his wife once a day.
He said, “The suspect also claimed that he tied his wife due to her mental health difficulties.
The command, according to the spokesman, had forensic specialists and a physician enlisted to determine the victim’s state of health.
He declared that following the inquiry, the suspect would face charges in court.
