At Kabong Community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau on Saturday, eight people were electrocuted, six of them fatally, by a faulty power line of Jos Electricity Distribution Plc. (JED).
At around three in the morning, the broken line blew sparks and electrocuted the victims in the various dwellings while destroying nearby homes and businesses.
It was quite sad, according to Mr. Istifanu John, the Jos North Local Government Council’s sole administrator, who visited the scene.
He claimed that further damages to the state were caused by the catastrophe and urged the JED to correct any issues that may have contributed to the horror.
This situation could have been avoided, which makes it pitiful.
“Those who perished died in their houses; they didn’t go anywhere looking for conflict.
“As a government, we are saddened by this change.
To prevent another loss of this magnitude, he said, “We call on JED to ensure that all faulty power sources are fixed.”

John expressed his sympathies to the grieving families and cautioned the populace about using electric appliances.
Solomon Odidi, the community shopkeepers association’s spokesman, stated that seven stores had been demolished in his statements.
Odidi attributed the tragedy to the JED’s intermittent power supply, which it only provided at night.
He applauded the Plateau Fire Service for its quick action, which, in his opinion, helped to reduce the number of casualties and prevent further damage.
Odidi requested assistance from the government for the families of the deceased and those whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the catastrophe.
