The United Nations has issued a warning about an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso, emphasizing the urgent need for assistance. The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, has called upon member states to provide funding to address the situation.
The country is currently facing a dire situation, with 6.3 million people requiring humanitarian support and protection. Despite efforts by aid organizations and partners to assist the government in meeting the immediate needs of the population, only 19 percent of the targeted 3.8 million individuals have received aid so far this year.

The $935 million Humanitarian Response Plan for 2024 is severely underfunded, with only 17 percent of the required funds secured. Additionally, armed terrorist groups have obstructed humanitarian access in various parts of the country, exacerbating the crisis. The Sahel region is also grappling with drought-related challenges, further complicating the humanitarian situation.
