Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming 2023 elections, paid a visit to the victims affected by the recent mosque arson in Kano.
Upon his arrival in Kano on Sunday, Obi proceeded directly from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where numerous victims were receiving medical treatment.
Expressing his shock and disapproval, Obi described the incident as horrific and condemnable, emphasizing the tragedy of such an event taking place in the country today. He expressed bewilderment at the motivation behind a young boy committing such a terrible act against his own family and community.
Obi reiterated his stance against the violence, stating that his visit aimed to demonstrate support and solidarity for the victims while commending the hospital management for their dedicated efforts. He emphasized the importance of condemning such senseless acts of violence.
Additionally, Obi offered his condolences to the government and people of Kano, urging all Nigerians to come together in unity against such mindless violence. Reports indicated that the tragic incident in Larabar-Albasawa, a serene community near Gezawa in Kano State, stemmed from a family dispute over inheritance.
The perpetrator, Shafiu Abubakar, reportedly set the mosque ablaze during the early morning Subh prayer, endangering approximately 40 worshippers by locking the door after dousing the area with petroleum.
