A 54-year-old man named Jegede Folorunsho has been placed under detention at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on suspicion of defiling an eight-year-old child in the Mushin neighbourhood of Lagos State.
The defendant was accused on Monday with defiling the kid in front of Magistrate O.M. Ajayi, who preside over a magistrate court in the state’s Ebute Metta district.
The victim was sexually abused by Folorunsho, according to Paul Ugorji, the police prosecutor.
Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law was broken, according to Ugorji.
“That you, Jegede Folorunsho, did defile one girl (name withheld), a minor of eight years, by having carnal knowledge of her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” the charge states. It was filed on October 4, 2023, at No. 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District.
The plea of the accused was rejected.
The accused was placed under remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre by the magistrate, who granted the police’s application.
The DPP should be approached for legal advice about the case file, the court further ordered.
In order to get a report on the DPP’s guidance, the magistrate postponed the case to December 15, 2023.
