Usman Ahmadu, 53, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police for reportedly abusing a kid with mental health issues.
Usman Ahmadu, who is believed to be from Maiduguri in Borno State, is an internally displaced person (IDP) who lives in Saminaka, a neighbourhood in Yola North Local Government Area that is outside of Yola.
Usman Ahmadu, who is currently being detained by the state Police Command, has admitted to four instances of sexual assault on the girl with mental illness, starting in 2021.
According to a statement released by the state Police Command, CP Afolabi Babatola, the state commissioner of police, had directed a thorough investigation and prosecution of the case.
The state police public relations officer, Suleiman Nguroje, issued a statement on Thursday morning, quoting the CP saying that there is nowhere for criminals to hide in Adamawa State.
The age of the youngster who was beaten was not mentioned in the police statement.
The suspect’s neighbours, who provided feedback on the crime that landed him in police custody, said it was harsh of him to attack a defenceless child after living for years as an internally displaced person (IDP) on the kind generosity of the Saminaka community.
