Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D – the Speaker of the House of Representatives- has declared that in case economic circumstances do not witness any breakthroughs at the end of six months’ period are up, members of parliament will renew their 50% salary reduction willingly.

The purpose of this gesture is to aid underprivileged individuals in Nigeria amidst these trying circumstances.

During the launch of the National Legislative Network on Nutrition and Food Security, Abbas emphasized the collaborative measures aimed at reducing economic hardship and food insecurity. The speech was delivered by Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, deputy to Abbas.

He stressed that the House stood in unity with the people, and urged them to have patience while discouraging any planned protests which he considered detrimental to the country’s progress.

“The current rise in food prices and economic challenges facing our nation heighten the growing worry about food security. Consequently, this gathering is urgently needed,” stated Abbas. He further guaranteed Nigerians that the House was dedicated to tackling nutritional problems while supporting government-led initiatives related to agriculture and nutrition.

The Speaker emphasized the administration’s dedication to addressing the economic crisis and encouraged endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet. He stressed collaboration towards achieving sustainable solutions rather than intensifying discord through demonstrations.

His final remarks included a plea for forbearance, as he vowed that the House will continue to work tirelessly on legislative solutions aimed at enhancing conditions in Nigeria: “Our quest to ensure your satisfaction will never cease. Kindly exercise patience.”
