In Kaduna State, the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Air Component have neutralised five terrorists and found ten motorcycles.
In a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna, the Deputy Director Army Public Affairs, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Lt-Col Musa Yahaya, confirmed the development.
Yahaya claimed that the operation was carried out to restrict bandits’ freedom of movement within the 1 Division Area of Responsibility and to foster a climate favourable for successful and peaceful general elections.
“Bandits and other criminal groups in Kaduna state suffered severe blows from the highly determined soldiers of 1 Division Nigerian Army and Air Component of Operation Whirl Punch.
“The troops effectively cleared Mando-Sabon Birni-Maidaro-Dogon Dawa, Galadimawa, Saulawa, Farin Ruwa, and Polewire villages in Birnin Gawri and Chikun Local Government Areas in the state during the very aggressive battle patrol that lasted more than 48 hours.
Ten motorcycles were recovered from the robbers during the patrol, while several other motorcycles were burned and destroyed. Troops also neutralised five bandits during the operation.

Two AK-47 weapons, five IEDs, two cellphones, bandit uniforms, and magazines were among the other items the military found.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, according to Yahaya, expressed pleasure with the soldiers’ behaviour throughout the operation and praised them for their bravery and tenacity.
The GOC ordered the army to keep fighting until all crimes, including banditry, abduction, terrorism, and other offences, were put an end to, Yahaya stated.
