The Ekiti State Police Command has successfully apprehended five individuals who are believed to be involved in kidnapping activities along the state’s Iju Ikere boundary.
The announcement was made by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday, in a statement released on Tuesday. OBASANJONEWS24 also reported that two traditional rulers in the state were tragically killed on Monday, with suspicions pointing towards gunmen who are suspected to be herdsmen.
The incident occurred in the Ajoni Local Government Area of the state, specifically between Oke-Ako and Ipao-Ekiti.
The five alleged kidnappers who were captured have been identified as Usman Jelili, Mohammed Bande, Abubakar Aliu, Isah Abdulahi, and Suleiman Abdulahi.
The police, along with the NSCDC, Amotekun, and local hunters, conducted a thorough search operation in the Oke-Osun area and the dense woodland along the Iju-Ikere boundary to eliminate criminal elements, particularly kidnappers, from the state.
The suspects were apprehended in the forest and were found in possession of four phones, one cutlass, one jack dagger, and two motorcycles.
The suspects initially claimed to be herdsmen, but further investigation revealed that they did not own any cattle and no cattle were found in their possession at the time of their arrest.
