The 47-year-old man’s body was found on Wednesday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, after he was killed by floodwaters on Monday.
According to Hassan Adekunle, the State Fire Service’s spokesman, in a statement released in Ilorin on Wednesday, the unnamed man was washed away by torrential water on Monday evening following a violent downpour.
“The unnamed man, who was about 47 years old, unfortunately lost his life after being swept away by the violent floodwaters and was discovered dead today, September 27, 2023.
When Mr. Saheed called for help this morning at around 9:11 a.m., the Kwara State Fire Service responded quickly and went to the scene of the accident.
“With their diligent efforts, they were able to remove the man’s lifeless body from the choppy water, where it had lain at the Oloje Bridge next to G’ Division Police Station, Oloje, Ilorin.
The retrieved body was given to Mr. Saka Abdulkareem, the environmental officer for the Ilorin West Local Government, in an official yet sympathetic handover, according to the statement.
Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, expressed sorrow over the event and asked people to use greater caution in their daily routines and avoid moving from one area to another while it is raining.
