$45 Million Investment to Enhance Vaccine Production in Senegal

Senegal receives a $45 million boost to expand vaccine production capabilities, aiming to strengthen Africa’s health sector and combat global diseases.

A $45 million investment has been declared to enhance vaccine production in Senegal.

The African Development Bank (AfDB), the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have partnered to provide funding for VaxSen, which is responsible for vaccine production and distribution at the Pasteur Institute in Dakar.

The agreement, signed on December 13th with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in attendance, highlights Senegal’s leadership in promoting public health objectives throughout the continent.

The funding will boost local vaccine production, reinforce supply chains, and create a robust network for vaccine distribution.

This supports the African Union’s Vision 2040, which aspires for Africa to locally manufacture 60% of its vaccine requirements.
