40 people were injured and 18 died in the Kebbi auto crash

In a terrible car accident that happened in the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State, 18 people died and 40 other people were hurt.

A truck carrying passengers and a herd of cattle were both involved in the collision.

Nafiu Abubakar, a spokesman for the Kebbi State Police Command, said late on Monday that the incident happened near the Malisa junction in the Gwandu Local Government Area of the North-West state.

According to him, the Sunday accident involved the driver of a truck registered in Niger State with the number SRP 442 XA, who was transporting cows and passengers from the Illela council area to Lagos.

At Malisa Junction, the driver lost control of the truck and it fell over. Sixteen cows also died in the accident.

He went on to say that Ahmed Kontagora, the state police commissioner, had gone to the accident site and seen the victims being taken to Gwandu General Hospital, where the medical director had confirmed that 18 of the victims were dead.

He added that the injured people are responding to the hospital’s care.

But the Commissioner told drivers to follow safety rules and be careful so that something like this doesn’t happen again.

He also suggested that drivers be more careful, never overload their cars, and always follow the speed limits that are posted.

In addition to expressing sympathy to the families of the deceased, CP Kontagora prayed for their souls to find eternal peace.
