4 PDP Governors Support Wike, Says Damagum

David Akinyemi

Damagum reveals that 4 PDP governors are backing Wike amid the party crisis. Learn more about the political dynamics and ongoing support.

The ongoing turmoil within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains unresolved, as attempts to remove the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, exacerbate rifts within the PDP Governors’ Forum.

This internal conflict highlights the challenges faced by the party in maintaining unity and coherence among its leadership.

A senior official from the PDP, who requested anonymity, indicated that Damagum has garnered support from key figures, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and four other governors:

Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, and Agbu Kefas of Taraba. This coalition underscores the complexities of factional alliances within the party.

The source further elaborated that while Peter Mbah of Enugu and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara have chosen to remain neutral, a total of seven governors are actively advocating for Damagum’s ousting.

Leading this opposition is Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, alongside other notable figures such as Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Godwin Obaseki of Edo.

The situation has intensified following Damagum’s controversial decision to postpone a crucial National Executive Committee meeting and his endorsement of the Rivers State PDP Congresses, which has led to heightened tensions, particularly between Wike and Governor Fubara of Rivers State.
