According to Lawal, a 24-hour curfew was enforced after the incident due to minors being involved in protest activities. Specifically, many of these protesters were almajiris aged from 9 to15 and had initiated public property destruction along the Maiduguri-Kano road.
Although the police attempted to pacify the chaos, the mob grew more disorderly and breached their barricades while hurling stones at officers.
The commotion extended throughout other districts of Maiduguri as rioters set their sights on looting vocational training equipment from Borno State Mechanical Workshop situated along Baga Road whilst also damaging five BOTMA official vehicles.
Fourteen suspects have been apprehended by law enforcement and are presently under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Command.
The situation in remaining local government areas within Borno State remains steady, with persistent surveillance and patrols enacted accordingly.
