A seismic event originating in New Jersey caused a disruption during a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York on Friday.

The earthquake, with an initial reported magnitude of 5.5 near North Plainfield, was felt across a wide area, including Pennsylvania. However, the US Geological Survey later revised the magnitude to 4.8 and pinpointed the epicenter under Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, 30km to the west.

Despite the widespread tremors, there have been no reports of injuries or property damage. This incident is unusual for the northeastern US, which is not typically prone to earthquakes due to its distance from known fault lines. The most significant quake in the New York City area was a 5.2 magnitude event recorded back in 1884.
