Police in Kaduna have arrested 39 suspects for displaying Russian and Chinese flags. Discover the reasons behind these arrests and their implications.
According to the police authorities, the suspects had in their possession 38 Russian flags, one Chinese flag, two catapults along with a bag of stones and multiple damaged items.
In various areas of the state capital, numerous individuals were taken into custody by the Kaduna State Police Command for instigating violence, exhibiting flags from both Russia and China, as well as causing harm to public and private property. The total number apprehended amounted to 39 suspects.
Among the suspects was the tailor who created and supplied Russian and Chinese flags to the protestors.
The suspects took advantage of the #EndBadGovernance protest, as stated by Mansir Hassan, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command. They inflicted harm on unsuspecting individuals in a violent manner.
Included in his list of damaged properties were a Kaduna State Vigilance Service Hilux vehicle, a journalist’s car, a new generation bank branch located in Tudun Wada within the local government area of Kaduna South, and the Zaria-based office for enforcement of traffic laws belonging to the Kaduna Traffic Law Enforcement Agency.
When the police teamed up with other security agencies to reinstate order, Hassan claimed that the suspects acted hostilеly and resorted to hurling stones, using catapults as well as various weapons.
With minimal use of tear gas, the police were able to ease the situation.
According to the police authorities, apart from several vandalized objects, the suspects were found in possession of 38 Russian flags and one Chinese flag along with two catapults equipped with a bag full of stones.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ali Dabigi, has given a strong cautionary message to all residents regarding the 24-hour curfew that had been enforced on the metropolitan cities of Kaduna and Zaria.
He made a commitment to detain and charge those who break the law; furthermore, he encouraged citizens to support both police forces and other security organizations during this crucial time.
According to the CP, “The purpose of the curfew is to safeguard lives and property while also facilitating a prompt return to order in Kaduna State.”
