36 Internet Fraudsters Convicted by EFCC in Oyo State

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Ibadan Zonal Command has declared that it has successfully obtained convictions and jail sentences for thirty-six online scammers in Oyo State.

This claim was made by the commission in a statement that Obasanjonews.com obtained on Friday.

Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, signed the statement.

The defendants were charged before Justices Uche Agomoh and E.U. Akpan of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State; and Ladiran Akintola, K.B. Olawoyin, Bayo Taiwo, and O.S. Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan, according to the anti-graft agency’s statement.

The commission further stated that the prisoners were imprisoned following their guilty pleas to one-count distinct counts involving possession of counterfeit documents, impersonation, acquiring by false pretence, and helping in the commission of a crime.

The statement from Oyewale stated that the panel arraigned the prisoners between April 24 and May 29, 2024.

As prosecution counsel, Oluwatoyin Owodunni, Modupe Akinkoye, Oyelakin Oyediran, Sanusi Galadanchi, Lanre Suleiman, Mabas Mabur, Shamsuddeen, Umar Abiso, Abiddeen Muhammad, Adamu Sahabi, Fatima Baba, David Olubode, and Favour Adewunmi prayed the court to convict and sentence them accordingly. The commission further stated that the convicts pleaded guilty to their respective charges when they were read to them in court.

It further stated that all of the prisoners received their sentences of jail after being taken into custody by commission agents for violations relating to the internet.
