338 kg of psychoactive drugs were discovered in the state by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s (NDLEA) Gombe State command.

The NDLEA commander for Gombe State, Mrs. Ekaete Egwunwoke, made this announcement during a news conference on Thursday in Gombe.

Mrs. Egwunwoke claimed that the drugs were discovered in a vehicle traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Gombe along the Gombe bypass, as represented by the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Henry Ihebuzor.

She said that among the things found were 178 kg of Diazepam tablets, 106 kg of Tramadol capsules, and 29 kg of Exol-5.

She claimed that Umar Bakura, the truck driver, had been detained and would be brought before a judge after the inquiry was over. The commander told people who commit these kinds of crimes to stop using, dealing, selling, and smuggling hard drugs in the state, especially during the holidays and the upcoming 2023 general elections.

She claims that the leadership has put the required plans in place to get rid of illegal narcotics from the state.

She also asked everyone involved to work with the NDLEA to stop drug-related activities in the state.

The truck driver, Umar Bakura, told reporters that he didn’t know the things he was hauling were chemicals that make people feel high.
