The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has detained over 32 Chadians and one Togolese at their hideouts in Ogun State’s Odeda Local Government Area.

The suspects were paraded on Saturday at the NIS headquarters in Abeokuta by the Ogun State command.

Jibrin Yakubu, the Controller of Immigration in Ogun Command, indicated to reporters that the accused lacked proper travel permits and had no means of support.

He claims that on Wednesday, after NIS investigators assaulted their two hiding places in Odeda at 12 am, the illegal immigrants were captured.

Yakubu stated that they posed security risks to the country, entered the country illegally, and had questionable intentions for entering Nigeria.

He said that the foreign nationals can only speak French.

“They claimed to have been invited by Togolese for networking purposes. They were required to register, and following that, they were required to pay a fee for that registration; then, their accounts were financed weekly, he said.

He did clarify, though, that the Togolese who brought them here had no indication of the purpose of his hiring the Chadians: commerce.

He said that the foreigners will be sent home the next week.
