The 2023 Inter-Formation Combat Obstacle Crossing Competition for soldiers from various Divisions, Formations, and Units was launched by the Nigerian Army on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), 320 soldiers—40 from each of the seven Army Divisions and the Army Headquarters Garrison—are taking part in the tournament, which consists of real-time combat simulation exercises and activities.

Maj.-Gen. Sani Mohammed, the Army’s Chief of Training, addressed the participating troops and explained that the tournament was training-oriented and had a specific goal of enhancing the soldiers’ combat effectiveness, physical fitness, and sense of teamwork.

Mohammed clarified that the goal was to increase the forces’ ability to deal with current political and security dangers in the nation and to provide junior commanders the freedom to take effective measures to improve their leadership, command, and control skills.

Every military campaign planning process includes obstacles, which must be carefully studied and dealt with effectively in order to accomplish the intended outcome.

In your numerous operations, you will inevitably run into a variety of challenges. You must therefore all make an effort to project positive traits and teamwork when competing, as well as follow all established guidelines.

“Various technical measures have been taken to ensure that everyone competes and complies with the rules,”

Therefore, the Chief of Training pleaded with the competitors to uphold the spirit of justice and sportsmanship during the tournament and take advantage of the chance to perform at their highest level.

He expressed his gratitude to Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), for providing the essential tools for the contest.

The exercise’s purpose, according to Commander AHQ Garrison Maj.-Gen. Koko Isoni, was to evaluate a group of soldiers’ capacity to overcome a variety of hurdles in the least amount of time while maintaining a competitive spirit.

Isoni continued, “It was also to promote Esprit de Corps and enhance troop proficiency, physical fitness, leadership qualities, and initiatives.”

Due to the nation’s present security issues, the competition also aims to train troops for combat.

“While extending a warm welcome to everyone in Abuja, I want to reassure you that the security situation in the Army Headquarters Garrison area of responsibility has improved.

We have launched vigorous operations under the direction of the Chief of Army Staff, and this is the outcome of coordinated efforts by the Garrison and other sister services and security agencies, he said.

He gave the competitors the reassurance that the local and technical organising bodies had taken the necessary steps to ensure a massive free competition.
