The Jigawa governor enforces a 24-hour curfew as protests escalate into violence, seeking to prevent further unrest.

The Jigawa State government has enforced an incessant 24-hour curfew to curb any more agitation, prompted by the countrywide demonstrations that turned into chaos on Thursday.

During a Thursday night broadcast, Governor Malam Namadi announced the initiation of curfew and expressed his profound worry over recent events. He strongly denounced the acts of violence and looting that sullied what were initially peaceful protests, emphasizing how such behavior runs counter to the values held by their state.

Governor Namadi asserted that the demonstrations’ violent turn, which was characterized by destruction and looting, is entirely unacceptable and goes against our cultural values. He added that allowing this to continue without any intervention would be impossible.

The governor imposed a 24-hour curfew in order to reinstate tranquility and stability. Nonetheless, he permitted residents the opportunity to attend Friday prayers from noon until 2:30 PM by making an exclusion.

The governor, Namadi, stressed the importance of the state government teaming up with security agencies to constantly oversee and implement appropriate actions to safeguard citizens’ lives and properties from criminal factions.
