In the Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state, a 23-year-old man named Saidi Musa Elemosho is accused of killing his father, Chief Musa, the Elemosho of Share Land, with a machete.
For the crime of culpable homicide, the culprit was hauled before Magistrate Muhammad Dauki.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Saidi indicated that when they were in the sitting room, his father started cursing him arbitrarily.
The defendant stabbed his father with a cutlass on the head, striking him multiple times till he died, after which he fled to a mountain in Share after becoming enraged at his father’s allegedly hurtful remarks.
Sergeant Abdullah Sanni, the police prosecutor, told the court that as this was a culpable homicide, the case is not typically bailable. He urged the court to take into consideration the motion ex parte that was attached to the FIR and order that the defendant be placed in the correctional facility centre.
Saidi’s remand was mandated by Magistrate Dasuki in his brief ruling, and the case was postponed until January 9, 2024.
