2027: Peter Obi Shares His Thoughts on Becoming Vice President
Peter Obi reveals his openness to becoming Nigeria’s Vice President in 2027 but outlines specific conditions that must be met.
Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate for the Labour Party in an earlier election cycle has expressed his willingness to serve as Vice-President if he finds someone more competent than himself who can propel Nigeria forward.
In a New Central TV interview that was viewed on YouTube, Obi stressed his dedication to ensuring Nigeria progresses in the upcoming 2027 general election.
When questioned about the possibility of being a vice-presidential candidate, Obi responded by highlighting his priority to see Nigeria succeed over personal political ambition. He stated that although he is not eager for the Nigerian presidency position, if there are individuals who can perform better in the role, he would consider taking up VP candidacy.

“I have people who advise me not to come out in 2027, but I replied by suggesting they offer themselves instead. We won’t measure everyone against the same criteria.”
Obi confirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, but also expressed a willingness to collaborate with like-minded individuals towards achieving their vision for the nation.
Obi clarified that he will remain loyal to the Labour Party, but any requests for collaboration or alliance must be accompanied by clear objectives. He emphasized his disinterest in forming political partnerships solely for gaining power or winning elections and instead prioritized resolving key issues such as ensuring universal access to education and addressing the issue of children who are out-of-school.
Recently, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by Julius Abure urged both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Security Adviser (NSA) to commence investigations into Obi’s affairs alongside other notable personalities such as Aisha Yesufu, an activist; and Pastor Itua Ighodalo.
The inquiry is related to purported mishandling of campaign finances throughout the 2023 election period.
During a press conference held in Abeokuta, Abayomi Arabambi, the Labour Party’s factional National Publicity Secretary made accusations against Obi and his associates. According to him, they diverted funds totaling N12 billion and $15 million that were initially intended for use during the presidential campaign. In labeling Obi as a “political profiteer,” Arabambi went on to explain how he believes these donations were wrongfully manipulated under his direction.
Yesufu’s public defense against these accusations was criticized by Arabambi as a smokescreen to hide the truth.
