A PDP group calls for the party to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region, emphasizing equity and political balance within the party.
A coalition of support groups associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stressed that it would be in the party’s best interest to allocate the 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region of the country.
This statement follows former Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar’s plans to run for the presidency under the party’s banner.
Grema Mohammed, the National Coordinator of the Coalition of PDP Intellectuals, emphasized that as we approach 2027, there is a strong warning to our party leaders: this time, it is crucial to prioritize the party and bring its leadership back to the Southern region.
At a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, Usman Saeedu, the Publicity Secretary of the coalition, affirmed their dedication to revitalizing the PDP and setting it up for a presidential win in 2027.
He emphasized that to accomplish this goal, the party must move forward by choosing dynamic, knowledgeable, and dependable candidates to represent it in the forthcoming presidential election.
The group stated, “We are advocating for a dual reform: assigning the party ticket to the South and prioritizing competence and ability as key criteria. They emphasized that the PDP cannot afford further mistakes.”
We cannot keep exhausting the energy and resources of our party members needlessly, simply because institutions responsible for upholding their duties are falling short.
The group also encouraged those who persistently pursue the party’s presidential ticket, regardless of circumstances or current demands, to understand that supporting others is a valuable form of service.
They stressed that the main focus for each PDP member should be ensuring the party’s victory in the presidential election.
Therefore, their personal interests should fully align with the party’s interests, regardless of the cost.
