Peter Obi clarifies there is no merger agreement with PDP or NNPP ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing ongoing focus on his political agenda.

In anticipation of the 2027 election, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate from 2023, has stated that there is currently no merger agreement with either the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), or any other political party.

The ex-governor of Anambra State made this remark during a Thursday morning press conference in Abuja, where he addressed the state of the nation.

He mentioned that no agreements have been made with other parties yet. He called on all supporters of Nigeria in the political arena to unite in 2027 and overthrow the All Progressives Congress (APC), which he blamed for mishandling the country’s resources.

Additionally, Obi characterized the security situation in the country as regrettable, noting that Nigerians are losing their lives needlessly due to banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping for ransom.

He stated that corruption levels in Nigeria remain high, and the cost of governance has also risen significantly. This has resulted in a sharp increase in public debt under President Bola Tinubu’s administration from the APC party.

Obi claimed that government officials deliberately mishandled public funds in 2024 by consistently engaging in foreign travel.

In the 2023 presidential election, Tinubu emerged victorious in 12 out of Nigeria’s 36 states and garnered substantial support in numerous other regions. He achieved a total of 8,794,726 votes—nearly two million more than his nearest competitor, Atiku Abubakar from the PDP.

Atiku, having sought the presidency six times, received 6,984,520 votes. In contrast, Obi made an impressive debut by obtaining 6,101,533 votes. Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP and former governor of Kano State finished fourth overall but emerged victorious in his home state—Kano—with a total of 1,496,687 votes.

Interestingly, just months before the last election, Obi and Kwankwaso were members of the PDP. However, they left the party due to irreconcilable differences.
