2027: Kwankwaso Slams Northern Elders on Presidential Picks
Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has voiced his discontent regarding the behavior of “a few individuals claiming to be Northern leaders,” who interfere in candidate selection processes, particularly for the presidency, while pretending to represent the region.
The former governor expressed that these actions create division among the populace, undermine democracy, and most crucially result in electing leaders who lack proper qualifications.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Kwankwaso emphasized that lessons from previous elections should alert these so-called leaders. He urged them to refrain from meddling in candidate selection and imposing their will on the public.
He stressed that elders from the North, especially those in the Northwest, should avoid showing favoritism when selecting candidates.
It should be remembered that some time ago, the former governor refuted rumors about an agreement with former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The rumor suggested that there was a plan for each to serve a specific term in office.
