Claims that the Super Eagles undervalued Lesotho in Thursday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier for 2026 have been denied by Semi Ajayi.

At the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Super Eagles forced the Likuena to a 1-1 draw.

In the 56th minute, Motlomelo Mkhwanazi gave Lesotho a startling lead.

Ajayi brought Nigeria level eleven minutes later.

At the news conference following the game, Ajayi responded, “Absolutely not,” when asked if the Super Eagles players thought less of Lesotho. We didn’t take them lightly; we gave them our all and took this game extremely seriously.

“Just like we do for every game, we prepared for this one as well. We should have taken a few more chances, in my opinion, but we’ll learn from this and return stronger in the next game.

In their next game, Jose Peseiro’s team will try to make amends by facing the Warriors of Zimbabwe.

Huye Stadium in Butare will host the second match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification tournament on Sunday.
