2026 WCQ: Iheanacho appointed as the new captain for Eagles

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho will lead the Super Eagles out in today’s clash against Lesotho.

Head coach, Jose Peseiro opted for Iheanacho in the absence of the regular captain, Ahmed Musa and assistant captain, William Troost-EKong.

Peseiro also stuck with his favourite 4-4-2 formation for the game.

Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho will be behind the sticks while Bright Osayi-Samuel and Jamilu Collins will occupy the right and left-back positions.

England-based duo Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey are the two centre-backs.

Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka will feature in midfield, while Ademola Lookman and Iheanacho will operate from the flanks.

Bayer Leverkusen star, Victor Boniface and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi will lead the team’s attack.

The game slated for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo will kick-off at 5pm tonight.
