Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State said that the party has legal ways to deal with disloyal members. This was in response to rumours that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike might support a different presidential candidate in the 2023 elections.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has encountered apathy from five PDP governors who are part of the G5, or Integrity Group. These governors are Wike, Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Uguwanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo). They contend that the northerners and PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu ought to step down.

In response to claims that he and his G5 allies had discussions with Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, Wike claimed on Friday that no agreements had been reached with any presidential contender before the 2018 election.

The Rivers governor and those who were allegedly preparing to work against the PDP’s interests received a warning from Tambuwal nonetheless.

In a statement on Friday, Muhammad Bello, Special Adviser to Tambuwal on Media and Publicity, said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “will respond to the antics of five of its governors currently being speculated to be in political dalliance with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The G-5 PDP Governors, led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, reportedly met with Tinubu in London hours prior to his speech to discuss the potential of their working together to support Tinubu’s success in the upcoming presidential elections.

“The PDP is a law-abiding party, and it would investigate legal ways to bring any of its errant members to book,” says Governor Tambuwal, who is also the director general of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organisation.

Tambuwal, who called the members of the G5 “excellent colleagues,” said that he does political engineering and talks with them.

“This is not an attrition-based battle. I consistently assert that anything you are doing in this industry will be discovered, even if you try to hide it. A political initiative cannot be planned and carried out in one’s bedroom. You must speak up about it.

Therefore, he stated, “I assume the party will now respond to whatever position they have chosen when my colleagues resolve on what to do.”
