The 2023 presidential election fell short of Nigerians’ aspirations, according to a US envoy
Mary Beth Leonard, the US ambassador to Nigeria, has acknowledged that the February 25 presidential election fell short of Nigerians’ expectations.
It was stated by Leonard in an opinion piece titled “The Elections of February 25” that many voters are dissatisfied with the election outcomes.
She did, however, accept that some people are celebrating wins they feel they have worked hard for.
In light of the upcoming March 11 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, Leonard has now urged the Independent National Election Commission, or INEC, to swiftly fix the issues.

“The people of Nigeria demonstrated their commitment to democracy on February 25 yet there are many angry and unhappy Nigerians as well as many who are celebrating gains they believe were hard-fought and well-earned,” the statement says in part.
The All Progressives Congress, the party in power, announced that Bola Tinubu had won.
But, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi are going to court.
The future of this nation will depend on Nigerians not allowing their differences to split them and on their willingness to let the legally mandated process for resolving election-related concerns run its course, Leonard continued.
