On Monday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for president, disputed claims that he had given Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, N40 billion in exchange for the politician’s resignation.
In an interactive session with the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, held on Monday in Lekki, Lagos State, the former governor of Anambra cleared the air.
He declared, “I never offered anybody money, consciously or unwittingly, to become president.
I never made Kwankwaso an offer of money during any of our conversations.
According to Obasanjonews24, there have been rumors that the Labour Party gave Kwankwaso N40 billion in exchange for his resignation in favor of Obi.
Recall that on November 5, Doyin Okupe, the Director-General of the Labour Party’s (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, declared that the party was in discussions with Kwakwaso and other NNPP leaders about forming an alliance.
Okupe’s claim increased the rumors that Kwankwaso received payment to resign.
The former governor of Kano State, however, stressed that he is standing down for no one and declared that he was running to win in Lagos over the weekend.
