Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the APC, for using the phrase “emi lokan.”
In the run-up to the APC presidential primary election, Tinubu asserted that it was his turn to lead Nigeria, saying, “It is my turn.”

“Let me say straight now that “Emi Lokan” (my time) and “I have paid my dues” are one and the same thing and are inappropriate attitudes and mentalities for the leadership of Nigeria now,” wrote Obasanjo in a letter on Sunday.
These assertions “cannot form the new pedestal to reinvent and invest in a new Nigeria based on an all-Nigeria government for the liberation and restoration of Nigeria,” according to Obasanjo.
Obasanjo stated that “the solution should be in us and not in me and I,,” saying that “no individual can claim he has the absolute solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.”
