A few weeks before the 2023 elections, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), took a shot at Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP).
Kwankwaso claimed that because he had a PhD and more than 30 years of experience in politics, he was better equipped than Obi to lead Nigeria.
Speaking at the Chatham House in London, Kwankwaso argued that competence, not sentiment, should be the criterion for choosing the future president of Nigeria.
Kwankwaso stated that he will only leave the presidential campaign for a candidate who is more qualified than him, despite the fact that he has been a governor for eight years and a senator.

Kwankwaso claims, “I have a PhD in civil engineering.” I am investigating your candidate’s possessions. I’ve been a part of the system for more than 30 years. I did not trade.
“Let’s bring criteria and choose the best if anyone wants Kwankwaso to resign.”
I’m prepared to speak with a better candidate whenever I have one. The Labour Party and our party, which is a national party, differ if you have a party that is centred on ethnicity and religion.
