Alhaji Aliyu Maina, the National Rescue Movement’s (NRM) nominee for governor of Adamawa State, has passed away.
Olusola Afuye, the NRM’s national publicity secretary, has verified Maina’s passing.
His death occurs less than 30 days before the following year’s general elections.
He was said to have passed away on January 25 in Abuja following a brief illness, the same day that Professor Uchenna Ikonne, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Abia State, was officially declared dead.

According to the family’s statement, Alhaji Abba Maina passed away on January 25 at his home in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, following a brief illness.
“He was buried in accordance with Muslim custom.” “We ask the Almighty Allah to keep his loved ones, including his family, safe,” Afuye stated.
He urged friends in politics and business to lend the late Maina’s family support and love at the time of their loss, adding that specifics of the arrangements would be made public after consulting with his family.
