Prior to Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections, vote-buyers, according to former Kaduna South senator Shehu Sani, have turned to a different technique.
He claims that individuals planning to buy votes are currently gathering the account information of potential “vote sellers”
Sani’s remark coincides with the currency shortage brought on by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) naira redesign programme.
The activist had previously accused certain governors of concealing old naira notes in order to buy votes, but they were caught off guard by the CBN’s redesign of the naira, which has since rendered their stolen money unusable.
Sani claimed that politicians have started providing what he called palliatives in exchange for votes in addition to offering money to voters online.
Vote purchasers have taken to gathering voters’ bank account numbers.
Palliatives are also given away in exchange for votes, according to Sani’s tweet.
