$200K Ransom Paid for My Release, Says Singer Gnewzy
Singer Gnewzy reveals that a $200K ransom was paid to secure his release from kidnappers after a harrowing ordeal.
The Nigerian Afro pop singer, Emuemu Oghala Goodnews, also known as Gnewzy who was kidnapped has disclosed the sum of money paid for his release.
Gnewzy was reportedly kidnapped on Eklat road in Ughelli, Delta state in April 2024 according to OBASANJONEWS. Fortunately, Gnewzy’s manager and brother, Obas9ice narrowly avoided being abducted.
Dilly Umenyiora, the CEO of his record label, received a mail from the abductors demanding $200,000 ransom.
May 3 marked the release of the singer.
During an interview with HipTV, Gnewzy shared that $200,000 was paid to secure his release while narrating the difficulties he faced.
He revealed that the individuals who abducted him were clothed in police uniforms as well.
“A ransom totaling approximately $200,000 was paid by them. I embarked on a radio tour in my home state of Delta State specifically Ugheli where I originated from.

Following the conclusion of the entire tour on a Sunday, I organized an impromptu listening party to round off.”
“We prepared for the party and I delivered a performance. Then, we departed to our apartment. Later on, my brother expressed his desire to fetch someone so I requested if I could join him.”
“We arrived at the location to collect the individual, only to find they had changed their mind about joining us. As we were heading back home and completing a U-turn, police officers suddenly approached our vehicle and ordered us to exit.”
At a specific juncture, they halted and forcefully removed my brother from our midst. The message conveyed to him was that he would be killed upon refusal to comply with their demands. He received instructions directing him to escape into the surrounding bushland or otherwise face termination by these violent perpetrators.
The notion crossed our minds that someone might be attempting to use me as a means of reaching my label boss.
Subsequently, my face was enveloped with an item. No physical assault occurred while they furnished me with nourishment and warned against unconventional behavior, threatening repercussion if disobeyed.
