20 hospitalised after an Abuja building fall, two people died

Following the tragic event of a two-storey building collapsing in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, at least two people have so far been confirmed dead and 20 others have been rescued and transported to hospitals.

According to a previous report from OBASANJO NEWS24, a two-story structure in Garki, Abuja, off of Lagos Street by the intersection with Nsukka Street, fell on Wednesday night as a result of the widespread heavy rain.

SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, provided the information in a statement that was made on Thursday and made available to DAILY POST. She added that the command had quickly responded to the emergency by sending specialised search and rescue teams to the spot to save lives.

In an endeavour to find and rescue individuals who are trapped, the Command has made every effort possible. Up till this point, 20 people have been saved from the site, while 2 more tragically perished.

In order to determine the extent of the damage, Police Commissioner CP Haruna G. Garba had previously visited the spot.

Part of the statement states, “To simplify our rescue efforts, we are working closely with other pertinent agencies, including the Fire Service, Emergency Medical Services, and disaster response teams.

“CP Haruna G. Garba, psc, the commissioner of police, personally visited the scene to evaluate the situation and to offer condolences to the impacted families.

He was grateful for the community’s and the neighborhood’s volunteers’ amazing assistance in the rescue effort.

The public is urged to avoid the incident area in order to aid ongoing rescue attempts and to ensure that emergency services can perform their jobs without interference. “The CP expresses his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
