19 are detained by NSCDC for allegedly stealing rice from a truck on the Kano-Zaria highway.
Personnel from the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, have detained about 19 individuals who are accused of robbing a rice truck on Sunday in Kano.
The suspects attacked the truck along the Kano-Zaria route, according to a statement from DSC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, the command’s public relations officer.
He claims that a truck with the registration number UGG 532 XA is hauling hundreds of 50kg bags of rice from the Alhamsad Rice Factory in Sharada, Kano.

The vehicle was on its way to Zaria in Kaduna State, he emphasised, when the thugs ambushed it and stole the bags of rice.
The NSCDC’s operatives responded quickly to the report, mobilised people to the scene, detained the suspects, and found 29 bags of rice on them, according to DSC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi.
The truck driver and his helpers were unharmed, he claimed, and he promised that the culprits will face charges in court once the inquiry was complete.
