Obi Aguocha’s appeal for the release of Nnamdi Kanu receives substantial backing from 180 members of the minority caucus. The endorsement highlights growing political support and pressure surrounding Kanu’s case.

Lawmaker Obi Aguocha’s motion for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been adopted by 180 members belonging to the minority caucus in the 10th House of Representatives.

During a caucus meeting on Monday, Aguocha disclosed that he represents the Federal Constituency of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South.

He encouraged his colleagues to adopt a clear stance regarding the ongoing debate concerning Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and to seek out a political resolution for the urgent matter.

After Aguocha recently visited former President Muhammadu Buhari and successfully rallied 50 colleagues from various parties as well as the southeast caucus of the National Assembly, this influential group has now adopted his stance.

Aguocha stressed the significance of a collective front in the minority caucus during his speech. He emphasized that resolving Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s case was pivotal for maintaining national peace, stability, and unity.

He urged for prompt and calculated involvement with pertinent parties to promote a peaceful and political settlement of the issue, which holds noteworthy consequences on Nigeria’s socio-political setting.

Aguocha emphasized the potential advantages of resolving the situation through discussions and reconciliation rather than prolonged legal procedures and confrontation in an address statement.

He believed that a political resolution has the potential to facilitate increased nationwide unity and rebuild faith amongst different communities.

“Today,” he announced, “the opposition parties have made a resolute stance on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the anticipated demonstration, insecurity concerns, crumbling infrastructure and the economy.”

“This reminder to take action reinforces the crucial role that legislative bodies have in promoting peace and stability within Nigeria. We are dedicated to advocating for initiatives that encourage justice, fairness, and peaceful coexistence throughout our country.”

Aguocha’s call was endorsed by a caucus made up of members from various political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 115 seats, Labour Party (LP) with 35 seats, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with 19 seats, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with five seats. Additionally, two-seat holders were present from Social Democratic Party (SDP), Young Progressives party(YPP), and African Democratic Congress(ADC).
