Out of the 1,001 indigenous students who received first-class diplomas and were sponsored by the Kano State Government to pursue higher education overseas, 159 graduates from the third batch have been airlifted to India to pursue master’s degrees in a variety of fields.

Along with other government representatives, Dr. Yusuf Kofarmata, the state commissioner for higher education, saw off the graduates as they departed from the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Friday.

Speaking soon after the exercise, Kofarmata stated that the government’s pledge to implementing a 1,001 postgraduate scholarship plan for 2023–2024 was upheld by the third batch’s departure.

He stated that the recipients would be sent to seven Indian universities for their master’s degree programmes: Mewar, Sharda, Sri Sai, Swarnnim, SR, Symbiosis, and Kalinga University.

He added that the students are first-class graduates who were chosen for their studies in highly competitive professional fields in order to bridge the manpower shortage in the state and the country.

In order to close the manpower shortage in the state and the country, 550 students in total will be enrolled in the first batch of eight prominent institutions to study in professionally demanding fields that are competitive internationally.

“It is anticipated that the students will also gain experience, expertise, and understanding in order to revitalise the state’s business environment and investigate additional avenues for socio-economic advancement,” the commissioner stated.

He claimed that on October 20, the program’s first class of 140 students left for India right away, and on the same day, 33 graduates from the first batch were airlifted to study at Islamic University in Uganda.
