1,531 Nigerians are evacuated from Ukraine by the FG, which applauds the IOM
On Thursday, the Federal Government announced that it had transported 1,531 stranded Nigerians from Ukraine via air.
On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, significantly escalating the conflict that had started in February 2014.
Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, claimed that since 2015, the government had assisted thousands of citizens in making their way home.
At the 22nd iteration of the Buhari Administration Scorecard Series, Onyeama addressed Abuja (2015–2023).

Among others, he claimed that over the past eight years, Nigerians in Libya, Mali, Sudan, Cote d’Ivoire, and Senegal received assistance.
According to the minister, more people, particularly women and girls, are falling victim to human trafficking in these nations.
Additionally, he remembered the evacuation of more than 100 people who had been left stranded in Russia following the 2018 World Cup.
The senior official added that Nigerians had recently been evacuated from India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In appreciation for its assistance with the repatriations, Onyeama praised the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The UN agency assists governments, migrants, refugees, and internally displaced people with issues related to migration.
