This incident follows a series of recent attacks in the country, particularly affecting the North due to ongoing security issues.
On Friday, two security personnel—a member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and a vigilante—were reported to have lost their lives during an encounter with armed bandits in Jibia Local Government Area.
Five individuals were also wounded by gunfire during the attack.
The attacks were reportedly initiated by the hoodlums around 9:15 p.m. in Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters within Jibia Township in Jibia LGA, Katsina State.
According to a statement by ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the spokesman for the State Police Command, on Friday, it was confirmed that those injured in the incident were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.
He mentioned that the Command, working in coordination with the military, members of the state community watch corps, and vigilantes, successfully thwarted the attacks. The prompt action by the joint security team led by DPO Jibia repelled the assailants and resulted in a fierce gunfight lasting over an hour.
The joint security team’s superior firepower and tactical advantage eventually compelled the bandits to retreat, resulting in unspecified casualties. This operation successfully rescued sixteen victims who had been trapped by the bandits.
